Scared of the Big C

This is so me.

The commitment-phobe
She’s been dating you for six months. And yet she balks when you mention commitment. Yes to makeout sessions, no to pet names. Yes to sex, no to affection. You’re together, you’re not together, you’re not really sure. Your friends want to know what’s up and you do too. She doesn’t like labels. She doesn’t like commitment. Maybe she doesn’t like you.
- excerpt from “Dating in Vain” (PDI Super, 2/12/2005)

The writer might as well have used my name instead of the pronoun she. Ooh, let’s do that!

Nikki’s been dating you for six months. And yet Nikki balks when you mention commitment. Yes to makeout sessions, no to pet names. Yes to sex, no to affection. You’re together, you’re not together, you’re not really sure. Your friends want to know what’s up and you do too. Nikki doesn’t like labels. Nikki doesn’t like commitment. Maybe Nikki doesn’t like you.

LOL. Or maybe I just need to meet the right guy. Maybe then I’d say yes to both makeout sessions and pet names :-P

Born to Bungee

The first time I tried JobPredictor.com it said, “Nikki Brion, your ideal job is a bungee jumper.” I knew it! I was born to bungee. I’ve been hoping for such a long time that a bungee jumping place would open here in the Philippines. There used to be one in Subic, but it closed down years ago. Someday I’m going to find some high place from which to jump off with ridiculously thin cords strapped to my ankles. I can’t wait!

It’s funny, because I’m not really an extreme-sports type. I just happen to love activities that involve heights ;-) I try to avoid, however, high edges with low to no railings, because I don’t trust myself not to jump. Don’t get me wrong! I’m not suicidal at all, but I get the feeling that I just might jump for the heck of it. I’ve always felt that way, even as a little kid.

When I read White Oleander many years back, I found this quote: “The mistrust of heights is the mistrust of self, you don’t know whether you’re going to jump.” Apparently I’m not the only one. Do you think you might jump, too?

Oh, and I saw an Adventure One plug for extreme ironing last night. I must say I haven’t seen anything more entertaining in a while. Who knew you could iron clothes while scuba diving? ;-P

Head in the Clouds

I recently saw a guy I had a major thing for when I was 16. (And 17. And 18. And 19. And 20. Haha!) In the past I had proven to be completely incapable of acting like a normal human being within 50 feet of him. This time, however, I am proud to say that I am finally cured! Relaxed interaction with him is now actually possible. I still think he’s adorable, though. It’s baffling really, but I think I might never quite get over him. Maybe 20 years from now when he’s fat and balding, I will no longer feel the urge to jump him. Let’s hope so ;-)

My high school class had its annual Christmas reunion party last night. It’s always great to see those guys again and to catch up on each other’s lives. Practically everyone is either already finished with or about to finish his/her undergraduate course. With four more semesters to go, I might just be the last one to graduate. Blame it on the two years I spent killing myself in ECE. No regrets, though. It’s all good.

A bunch of them prepared a handful of goofy awards. I got voted as the one who physically changed the most since high school. After losing my glasses and one-third of my body weight, I’d say it was no contest LOL. Chrissa got the Crush ng Bayan award. I expect the boy magnet to maim me once she sees that I actually posted that here.

Ugh. I have a ton of schoolwork to finish before the holiday break ends, but as usual I haven’t started on any of them. I have, however, managed to do other things since the break started last Thursday that include but are not limited to the following:

  • seeing a movie with my online-turned-real-life friends
  • having a PMS meltdown (that ended in a sobfest over nothing)
  • reading one and a half books (that don’t include the one we’re supposed to review for one of my classes)
  • accidentally bonking someone on the head with a microphone
  • getting caught in a sticky situation (that I have yet to figure out how to get out of)
  • and making a new layout for this website, version 14 entitled “Head in the Clouds”

Skylight v.14 - Head in the Clouds

I still have a bunch of get-togethers with family and friends scheduled for the next several days, so I’ll most likely be cramming the aforementioned ton of schoolwork into the last two days of the break. As usual :-P

Happy holidays to everyone!
