Try these simple craft projects when you’re feeling the urge to cut, glue and — if you’re anything like me — mostly make a mess.
Denim Photo Keychain
Carry your favorite picture around with you in this cute and functional keychain-cum-picture-frame!
What You Need
- leftover pieces of denim
- small piece of cardboard
- needle and thread
- PVA glue (white craft glue)
- a keychain ring
- small piece of plastic cover
How to Make It
- Cut two identical squares from the cardboard, one for the back and one for the front. Cut out a hole in one of the squares. This will become the front of your frame.
- Cover the two shapes with denim. You don’t need to sew. Just glue them down over the edges, because the next step will provide enough reinforcement.
- Sew the back and the front together. Make sure you leave an opening that’s slightly bigger than the photo window on one of the sides for the picture to come through.
- Sew on the keychain ring to one of the corners. Make it strong. You don’t want your keychain to get pulled off.
- Insert a piece of plastic cover to protect your photo. Finally, put in a picture and you’re ready to go!
Sparkly Star Keychain (or Note Holder)
Flaunt your inner diva with an easy-to-make sparkly star keychain or note holder.
What You Need
- star shape (cut one out of cardboard or buy a cheap pre-made shapes from a craft store)
- glitter nail polish (or mix glitter with clear nail polish)
- a keychain ring (or a wooden clothespin if you’re making a note holder)
How to Make It
- Punch a hole in one of the points of your star for the keychain ring to come through. (My shape was wooden so I drilled in a hole with a small screw and a screwdriver.)
- Paint over the entire surface of the star (back and front) with glitter nail polish. (I used blue and silver glitters with mine.) Wait for it to dry.
- Repeat the process until it sparkles like the real thing! The photo simply doesn’t do it any justice. It’s much prettier and sparklier than that
- Attach the keychain ring to your star and you’re done!
- Variation — Instead of a keychain, you can make a cool note holder by gluing the star to a wooden clothespin and tacking it to your wall. I put mine outside the door to hold reminders and stuff so I wouldn’t forget to do things.
