50 Years of the Old Ball-and-Chain

Last weekend my grandparents (we call them Ima, which means mother, and Tatay, which means father) celebrated their golden wedding anniversary by renewing their vows. Almost all their kids and grandkids were there, the guys in barongs and the ladies (that includes me!) in gold gowns. The whole event was pretty cool. I mean, imagine being married for half a century…wow.

And this weekend I watched “Star Wars Episode II” with my barkada (Filipino slang for clique). It was actually the first Star Wars movie that I really watched. My parents took me to see “Return of the Jedi” when it was re-shown a few years back, but I fell asleep half an hour into the film. This one, however, was quite fun, especially the last 20 minutes or so. Hehe, Yoda kicked some serious butt! It was so funny when he did the “kung fu hands” pose :-)

After the movie we had an impromptu sleepover at Aggie’s house. We stayed up until dawn talking and raiding their fridge for munchies. It’s funny because it seems like I actually see more of my barkada now that we’re studying in different universities than when we were all in the same high school. Maybe it just seems that way because we have so much more fun together now. I mean, in high school we just had lunch together and went on occasional night-outs, but now we actually take long vacations together, have sleepovers all the time, and generally just go out more often. Yup, the old quantity vs. quality thing :-)
