Of Bikes and Bites

This week has been quite interesting so far, at least for me. I got to try a lot of new things, including riding a bike (I never learned as a kid) and getting a big ol’ shot in my thigh. Here’s a rundown of my week:

Head in the Clouds

I recently saw a guy I had a major thing for when I was 16. (And 17. And 18. And 19. And 20. Haha!) In the past I had proven to be completely incapable of acting like a normal human being within 50 feet of him. This time, however, I am proud to say that I am finally cured! Relaxed interaction with him is now actually possible. I still think he’s adorable, though. It’s baffling really, but I think I might never quite get over him. Maybe 20 years from now when he’s fat and balding, I will no longer feel the urge to jump him. Let’s hope so ;-)

My high school class had its annual Christmas reunion party last night. It’s always great to see those guys again and to catch up on each other’s lives. Practically everyone is either already finished with or about to finish his/her undergraduate course. With four more semesters to go, I might just be the last one to graduate. Blame it on the two years I spent killing myself in ECE. No regrets, though. It’s all good.

A bunch of them prepared a handful of goofy awards. I got voted as the one who physically changed the most since high school. After losing my glasses and one-third of my body weight, I’d say it was no contest LOL. Chrissa got the Crush ng Bayan award. I expect the boy magnet to maim me once she sees that I actually posted that here.

Ugh. I have a ton of schoolwork to finish before the holiday break ends, but as usual I haven’t started on any of them. I have, however, managed to do other things since the break started last Thursday that include but are not limited to the following:

  • seeing a movie with my online-turned-real-life friends
  • having a PMS meltdown (that ended in a sobfest over nothing)
  • reading one and a half books (that don’t include the one we’re supposed to review for one of my classes)
  • accidentally bonking someone on the head with a microphone
  • getting caught in a sticky situation (that I have yet to figure out how to get out of)
  • and making a new layout for this website, version 14 entitled “Head in the Clouds”

Skylight v.14 - Head in the Clouds

I still have a bunch of get-togethers with family and friends scheduled for the next several days, so I’ll most likely be cramming the aforementioned ton of schoolwork into the last two days of the break. As usual :-P

Happy holidays to everyone!

Climbing Walls and Pigging Out

It’s been a pretty good and decidedly lazy semestral break. Most days I just loaf around the house watching TV, reading books, and surfing the net. Others I spend hanging out with friends and making headway with my Christmas shopping. I’ve pretty much been having the same amount of physical activity as a pampered house cat.

However, I did get a bit of exercise this week when I went wall-climbing with my college barkada all Thursday afternoon. It was so much fun! We climbed until it got dark, and we wanted to keep on climbing but most of us could barely move our arms by then. While it certainly was fulfilling to reach the top of a wall, my favorite part was hanging high up in the air and getting belayed down. When I kept failing at my attempts to finish one of the more challenging walls, my friends accused me of falling on purpose just so I could swing around in my harness. I suppose they were partly right. While I’m still waiting for my chance to bungee jump, to learn trapeze, and to float around in a free fall tube, I have to get my thrills wherever I can!

Afterwards we headed to Chrissa‘s condo to waste all of the exercise we had just gotten by eating like construction workers. We had been in the middle of our movie marathon at 2 a.m. when we suddenly had a hankering for some ice cream. God bless the genius who invented the 24-hour convenience store. Because of him we were able to enjoy a half-gallon can of Selecta ice cream even on that ungodly hour.

The rest of Friday went pretty much the same way: movies, kulitan, food, more kulitan, more food, and endless picture-taking. When you’re friends with someone like Kathy there will always be a camera documenting your every move. We don’t mind most of the time ;-)

Wallclimbing Sleepover

I uploaded a bunch of the snapshots we took. We got very creative with some of the shots, but we’ve decided to keep those pictures to ourselves so they won’t later be used for blackmail.

Fun with PVC Pipes

Last Saturday a bunch of my college friends and I met up at Megamall to watch The Stepford Wives. Before heading off to the cinema we stopped by the hardware store to get some stuff for Chrissa and Tin’s lab project. Being the crazy people that we are, we sort of got wacky on the pipe aisle. And being the photo whore that I am, I just had to take pictures. Here are Chrissa, Tin, and Albert to prove that the days of makeshift telephones made of string and tin cans are long gone.

Say hello to an old friend! Enjoy the lowest call rates!
The Atlanta PVC Pipe Company… Connecting People

After disturbing the peace on the pipe aisle, we were planning to pose for more photos wearing those huge silver letters used for building signs. (Bling-bling, baby!) Unfortunately, we were also running terribly late for the movie, so we had to cut short our little hardware store photo shoot. We’ll just have to get those bling-bling shots some other time ;-)

Shutterbug

School is now in full swing. I’m actually enjoying my classes. It’s a very foreign feeling—something I never felt in the land of circuit boards and electrical currents, otherwise known as ECE. For the ten-thousandth time I will say that I am soooo glad I shifted.

I took Film 110 (Black-and-White Photography) as an elective this semester. I’m loving it! I’m pretty sure that most of the photos I’ve taken will compel real photographers to exclaim “Who in heaven’s name gave this girl license to use a camera?!“, but I’m also certain that at least one or two of them are not completely vomit-inducing. We’re going to make contact prints next meeting, and I’m really looking forward to it :-)

As for non-school activities, Fatz had a birthday party last Saturday. For the first time in a really long time, my entire high school barkada got together. I hadn’t seen some of those girls since December, so I was pretty psyched. Jess took some pictures—I’ll be sure to post them once Jess sends them out. Paging, Jess! Hehe :-)
