Excuse Me While I Squeal

Nothing like exciting news to break a four-month blogging dry spell, I always say. So guess what? Both my blog and my portfolio site were featured in the recently released Web Designer’s Idea Book by Patrick McNeil, the creator of DesignMeltdown.com!

The Web Designer's Idea Book

I finally got my copy in the mail yesterday, and I spent approximately four and half minutes giggling with glee. Forgive my excitement, but this would probably be the one and only time my name would be mentioned in a book. I’m allowed to be ecstatic!

Ack! They printed our photo!

The funny part was that the screenshot they used for Bottled Sky included a photo of me and two of my awesome friends, Aggie and Chrissa. I honestly didn’t know whether to be embarrassed or stoked when I first saw it. I suppose I should simply be thankful that they didn’t use a screenshot of the entry where I rambled about how I had run out of decent underwear.

My portfolio is ready for its close-up ;-)

As for NikkiBrion.com, the author even included a paragraph about it in the chapter on portfolios. Here’s what he wrote:

A great example of design and content unity can be seen on Nikki Brion’s portfolio site. This designer used a color palette and style that suits her portfolio pieces. Notice how well the color palettes match. The layout adds a great deal of interest to the page as well. Making the content run down the middle does several things. It places focus on the copy, it creates balance and it shows that the artist thinks creatively. This is a fine example of using fresh ideas while retaining the fundamental requirements for a successful portfolio.

Can you hear that? It’s the sound of my shit-eating grin breaking my face.
